On Monday, I posted about Memorial Day on Ink-Stained Wretches.

The post includes the short poem “Quaint and Curious,” by Thomas Hardy, some comments about the first Memorial Day, which hasn’t ever gotten much press, and a list of books set during wartime.
If you’d like to read it, click here.
The perfect poem for the occasion 😊

Hardy does seem to understand what war is. But he understood a lot of things, which makes his books and poetry both sad and in some ways inconvenient.

I think my favourite is “He Never Expected Much”. Very stoic.
